It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marlene Ruth Matthews (nee Wynne, previously Wade). After dealing with a progressive disability for several years her health declined rapidly, and she recently passed on Easter Monday, April 21st of this year. 2025.
Marlene lived a life defined by generosity and kindness to her family becoming the neighbourhood mom. Marlene leaves behind her husband Ed Matthews and is survived by her two sons, Roger (Stephanie) and Greg, as well as her three grandchildren Owen, Ella, and Madison.
Born on October 28, 1944, to Earl and Elva Wynne, she grew up with a lively spirit and compassionate heart - qualities that guided her through eight remarkable decades. Marlene was very close to her siblings Barbara (Bill) and Richard, and she had a dedicated career as an elementary school secretary, where she had the opportunity to touch the lives of countless students and staff. Her passion for gardening was also well-known, and she could often be found tending to her flowers and plants. Marlene was also a swimming instructor for many years and was always proud of having shared this love with her grandchildren teaching them to swim in Pigeon Lake.
Marlene's warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed. Her legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, and the memories she created with those who knew her. She will be remembered for the rolls she enjoyed sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and a true friend, as well as for the depth of love and happiness she shared with us all.
Rest in peace, Marlene. You will always be remembered with love and fondness. We are extremely sad you are gone and will warmly cherish the memories of our time together.
